What is Mambo?
Here at KD Dance, the salsa style we teach is Mambo (or Salsa On2, New York Style). This is a dance style popularized by Eddie Torres in the 60s and 70s, which has its origins in the Palladium of New York (very popular in the 50s). Eddie Torres was one of the first dancers to regularize dancing in accordance with the clave, introducing the concept of βmusical timingβ (to simplify the understanding of figures and combinations). Eddie Torres is known as "The Father of Mambo", and many dancers and musicians have continued and enriched this legacy, which is what we know today as Mambo, or Salsa On2.
